A B S T R A C T

HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) is an HTTP-based media streaming communications protocol developed by Apple Inc. Since its requests use only standard HTTP transactions, HLS can traverse any firewall or proxy server that lets through standard HTTP traffic. HLS provides mechanisms for players to adapt to unreliable network conditions without causing user-visible playback stalling. HLS also specifies a standard encryption mechanism using AES and a method of secure-key distribution using HTTPS.

Terraversity is an online learning platform ran by Terraversity Edukasi Utama, PT. This platform can be accessed by website and mobile application. Users have to subscribe in order to get access to the features. One of the features on this platform is the discussion of university entrance exam (SBMPTN and UM) in videos.

This research tries to implement the HLS as the Video on Demand (VoD) streaming protocol for those videos. The author also tries to take the advantage of the encryption mechanism to make simple content protection. The content protection is intended to make videos accessible only to authorized users.
